ABC Pediatrics no longer employs a dedicated full time Phone advice nurse. Many insurance companies have made phone advice nurses available to their patients 24 hours a day. Please see the number to call on the back of your child's insurance card or on the insurance company website.
Our MAs, RNs, and providers will triage urgent phone calls during the day between seeing office patients. All of our staff uses the Barton Schmidt Pediatric protocols when answering medical questions over the phone. Also many illnesses cannot be diagnosed over the phone without the provider seeing the patient or without the confirmation of testing.
When you call, please tell the receptionist the main complaint, along with your child's name and age. Also your name and the number to reach you in the next 2 to 3 hours. She will attach the electronic note to the computer chart and send it to the next available provider to call you back. If the child's main complaint is one of the ones identified by the providers as needing to be seen, the receptionist will offer you an appointment time.
